Dreams of San Francisco

With summer finally making it’s way over the horizon, I can’t help but think of travelling. It’s only in recent years that I’ve actually had the desire to unleash my inner tourist and so I’m not certain how people make the choice of where to go yet! I have a list of places I would like to see slowly coming along, starting with (yet another) trip to Brighton and then Rome all in the last week of May.

But I digress, this post is actually about a past holiday – my favourite of all. San Francisco. It’s been almost a year since I went, and if I admit the whole-hearted truth to you, I miss it terribly (I still check the weather report weekly and imagine myself in the beautiful Alamo park whenever I ‘m reading!). When I returned to England after that trip I was desperately sad in my mundane seeming life and craving some sort of change. It’s a feeling and an altered perspective I have carried with me since.

Anyway, that became the inspiration for a new poem ‘Dreams of San Francisco’. I thought of it when Verve Poetry Festival revealed the theme for 2018’s competition was cities, and still in my slump thought it may help… and it did improve my mood considerably! I entered the competition with no luck, but I’m quite proud of it to be honest. It feels like my first ‘finely-tuned’ poem and I think the video turned out really well. I simply used clips from my trip last year to try and give a ‘retrospective’ feel. So here it is, for your viewing pleasure:

I really hope you enjoy! If you would like to see more video content head to my YouTube channel and subscribe. There’s some different kinds of videos over there, that I don’t always share on my blog too.

For now, I’m going to enjoy this English weather that will be swept away from us very shortly. Will you be enjoying the weather at home this year, or heading further afield?
